Low-cost, portable diagnostic and analytical devices are attractive for use in developing countries, in the field, or in home health-care settings. Electrochemical sensing provides a multipurpose and quantifiable methodology than other methods. These devices are fast, inexpensive, and simple platform for the quantitative sensing of analytes (biological and inorganic species) in aqueous solutions. Methods like screen printing for fabrication of electrodes yield acceptable results but are cumbersome and cannot be used for mass production. The project explores the use of a 3D ink extrution PCB printer to print conductive carbon ink on glass substrate to create a low cost, portable electrochemical sensor for detection of various analytes.
